Media Blasters Schedules Kanokon
Media Blasters has revealed its acquisition of distribution rights to the 2008 risqué supernatural romantic comedy anime series Kanokon by way of an announcement that the first DVD volume will go on sale April 27th. The $29.99 bilingual DVD will contain the first 4 episodes of the 12 episode series.

Not to say I know better than Media Blasters on how to run a business, but seriously, $30 for a single volume of a niche anime in this day and age? Seems to me that MB should start doing what Sentai’s doing and release Japanese-only sets for the same price. I’m not sure if dubbing is really going to attract any more people to this series, and certainly not more so than a cheap boxset. The cost of dubbing (especially since MB isn’t know for great dubs) might not be worth it.
This particular show may be able to sustain a full priced single release because the show is better than many of its ilk. So its devoted fans may be willing to support it and encourage other consumers to buy it.
Hopefully the release does well, but sadly quality and sales don’t always go hand in hand.
