Limited Edition PS2s Announced

To commemorate the production of the 20 millionth PlayStation 2 unit, Sony has announced plans to release a very limited edition series of colored PS2 units. Called the “European Automobile Color Collection,” 10,000 PS2 consoles will be colored white, red, blue, silver, and yellow. There will be only 2000 units of each color available worldwide. Sony Computer Entertainment has not yet revealed North American release plans for these collectables, but in Japan 600 units of each color will be sold for 50,000 yen each exclusively through the Japanese Playstation.com website. (Japanese retail on a normal PS2 console is 35,000 yen.) An additional 66 sets of all 5 colored systems will be made available for 250,000 yen. These units will ship on December 21, 2001 in Japan.
