Japanese Language Vampire Hunter D DVD Announced

Director Yoshiyuki Kawajiri intentionally created the 2000 Vampire Hunter D movie (known in America as “Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust”) with English language dialogue to give the film cultural novelty value for Japanese viewers and make the film more marketable internationally. However, a Japanese language version was produced as well. Initially only available on Japanese rental VHS, this Japanese language dub has now been scheduled for Japanese DVD release on June 19th under the odd title “Vampire Hunter D: Original Japanese Version.” The new Japanese DVD will retail for 5,040 yen. It’s not clear yet whether or not the disc will include any English translation. AnimeNation will be able to accept special order requests for this imported DVD Region 2 release.

The Japanese dub of Vampire Hunter D 2000 featured Hideyuki Tanaka (Bean Bandit) as D, Megumi Hayashibara (everything) as Reira, Hirokazu Yamadera (Spike Spiegel) as Meier Link, Emi Shinohara (Sailor Jupiter) as Charlotte, and Ichiro Nagai (Happosai) as D’s left hand.
