Japanese Anime Industry Executive Suggests Officially Working With Fan Translators

Tokyo Anime Center executive Masakazu Kubo, who is also the executive producer of the Pokemon anime franchise and the director of Shogakukan’s Character Business Center, last week submitted a proposal regarding the current state of Japan’s anime industry to Japanese government’s Task Force on Media Content Business and Japanese Brands. One section of Kubo’s report claimed that roughly 10 amateur translators with professional caliber skills are responsible for uploading unauthorized English translated anime to the internet. Kubo suggests that eliminating unauthorized anime distribution may be affected by bringing the few professional quality fan translators into the official, legitimate anime industry.
