Image to do Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon Comics

Image Comics publisher Jim Valentino announced that Image has secured the rights from Sony to produce a comic book adaptation of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Image will be producing 4-5 toys based on the movie timed for release to coincide with the film’s domestic DVD release in October. Each of the toys will include a chapter of the comic adaptation.

The comic adaptation will not be a direct adaptation of the movie, “but it will be very pretty to read… It will have a lot of sword play and will be very passionate.”

In what may or may not be a positive, Valentino said that he wasn’t previously aware that the film was the third part of a trilogy, so if the initial comic series sells well, Image may adapt the other parts of the story. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is actually not part of a three volume story but actually part of a 5 volume novel.
