HK Movie News

After years of rumors and delays, famed Chinese director & producer Tsui Hark has begun filming his sequel to his landmark martial arts/fantasy film Zu: Warriors From the Magic Mountain, which he made 18 years and 33 films ago. According to a report by Ain’t It Cool News, the cast for the new movie includes Ekin Cheng, Cecilia Cheung, Zhang Ziyi, Louis Koo and Sammo Hung reprising his cameo role from the first film. Venerable fight coreographer Yuen Woo-Ping, whose credits include The Matrix, Black Mask 1 & 2, and Iron Monkey, will supervise the martial arts for the new Zu film.

Traveling more roads than a cross country trailer, Traci Lords has now made the move from porno queen to pop vocalist to “movie star” to sci-fi TV star to HK martial artist. In an interview with Sci-Fi.com, Lords seemed very excited to discuss her role in Tsui Hark’s sequel to Black Mask, City of Masks. In the new film, Traci Lords plays “Chameleon,” a shape-shifting, former professional wrestler turned mutated martial-artist. Tsui Hark produced Black Mask, which starred Jet Li. Li will not appear in the sequel, and Tsui Hark will take over direction of City of Masks himself. Yuen Woo-Ping, who served as fight coreographer for Black Mask, will return in that capacity for City of Masks, which has a tentative release date of summer 2002.

Cinescape Online reports that Universal has placed its theatrical remake of the Green Hornet TV series on hiatus due to the potential upcoming Screen Actor’s Guild strike and Jet Li’s departure from the project.
