Harry Potter Sets Records in Japan

Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone has surpassed Star Wars Episode I for the biggest opening box office in Japanese history, earning 1.57 billion yen ($12.73 million) in its first two days of release. The Phantom Menace took in 1.5 billion yen during its opening weekend in Japan. Harry Potter has also broken A.I.’s record for greatest opening weekend attendance, drawing over 1.38 million viewers compared to A.I.’s 1.01 million viewers. After 20 weeks of release, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi is holding ground at the #3 position on Japanese box office charts.
