Harry Potter Outsells One Piece in Japan

The Sankei Sports Newspaper reports that Sayzansha Publishing, distributor of the Japanese language edition of the fifth Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, has announced that the first print run of the book, scheduled for release in Japan on September 1st, will be 2.9 million copies. This surpasses the record-setting first print run of 2.63 million copies of One Piece manga volume 27, signifying that Harry Potter is now arguably more popular in Japan than Japan’s best selling contemporary manga series.
