Ghibli Museum Opening Soon

The Mitaka City Animation Museum, likely to be better known as the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, is scheduled to open in October. Mitaka City expects to have 800,000 visitors during the first year and 600,000 annually, generating a ¥600 million profit through admission fees. The animation museum is located in Inokashira Oncho Park, one of the most popular spots in Mitaka City. Accordingly, city officials anticipate that it will help revitalize the community. Moreover, city officials have asked Miyazaki to create a new symbolic design to represent the Mitaka community, to be used in developing joint projects at the museum.
