Gainax Announces Pantsu to Anime
Gainax has formally announced the development of its next anime series. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, nicknamed “Pantsu to” (“Panties &”) will be an adventure starring the attractive blond angel Panty and the black-haired goth-loli angel Stocking who are ordered to Earth to battle “ghosts.” Hiroyuki Imaishi (Gurren Lagann, Dead Leaves) will direct, with Atsushi Nishigori (Gurren Lagann) providing character design and Yoh Yoshinari (Gurren Lagann) providing conceptual art design.
This ought to be quite interesting in numerous respects. With Imaishi directing and much of the core Gurren Lagann staff on board, it’s certain to look unusual and promises to have an equally unusual kinetic style. It’s also been a couple of years since Gainax’s last bishoujo service anime, so this is due, although it’ll probably rile much of the fan community that expects “better” from the studio the created the “Gainax jiggle” and animated Oruchuban Ebichu, Re: Cutie Honey, and He is My Master.

Gainax has ALWAYS delivered awesome masterpieces. As mentioned last one with Tengen Toppan Gurren Lagann. I am no nuts to expect every series to be a masterpiece.
Gainax has had its share of average or bad shows -konomini- but when they deliver we get to see something very awesome, which is every so often mind you.
finally… a new “top-tier” production from Gainax, with an animation-centric director and You Yoshinari (Gainax’s best in-house animator) doing some sort of design. I’m expecting nothing less than a total animation explosion. I’m thinking Imaishi’s “Dead Leaves” will serve as the best reference point for whatever this’ll turn out to be.

I’d like to be able to watch an anime without having to register as a sex offender first, Gainax…
