FUNimation News from Project A-kon

A FUNimation representative at last weekend’s Project A-kon convention confirmed that FUNimation does plan on eventually releasing complete saga DVD boxed sets of Dragonball Z TV episodes, but there are no tentative dates for such sets yet.

Dragonball Z movie 7 will be released in America in January 2003, followed by as many as 5 additional movies next year.

The distribution rights to the first 17 Dragonball Z TV series DVDs revert from Pioneer back to FUNimation in mid 2003. FUNimation is considering the possibility of of releasing these early episodes uncut, with new dubbed audio tracks to maintain consistency with the current releases. If this become a reality, there will likely be more than 17 DVD volumes re-issued because the first 2 American seasons of Dragonball Z are missing close to 14 Japanese episodes.

FUNimation is also considering the market potential of re-releasing the first 13 episodes of original Dragonball to DVD uncut and unedited.

Production on Blue Gender has been sped up, so the remaining volumes will now be released in pairs bi-monthly. Fruits Basket still has no tentative release date in America.
