FUNimation Acquires Blue Gender

FUNimation, known for its children and family friendly licenses, seems to be moving into a new market with the acquisition of the more mature and graphically violent anime TV series Blue Gender. The 26 episode series created by AIC and directed by Takahashi Ryousuke (creator of Votoms and Gasaraki) is a sci-fi, mecha action series heavily inspired by Aliens and Starship Troopers, complete with an insect-like alien virus called Blue, and intense graphic violence. FUNimation president Gen Fukunaga suggests that Blue Gender is suitable for viewers aged 13 and over. He has also stated, “It is unlike any anime fans in US have seen. Blue’s sci-fi flavor is something mature anime fans will want get a taste of.” Production is scheduled to commence soon. EX Magazine has published a detailed overview of the series, including images.
