FUNi Announces New Acquisitions
FUNimation has announced its acquisition of five additional anime titles.
Chaos;HEAd is Madhouse’s 2008 TV series adaptation of Nitroplus & 5pb.’s mystery/horror PC game. The 12 episode series will premiere in America next year.
Chrome Shelled Regios (Koukaku no Regios) is a 24 episode fantasy action television series broadcast in Japan last year. The series revolves around a new transfer student to a military academy in a post-apocalyptic, desolate earth. The series will premiere domestically later this year.
Heaven’s Lost Property (Sora no Otoshimono) is last year’s romantic comedy fantasy from AIC ASTA, based on Suu Minazuki manga. The 14 episode story about a high school boy who becomes the owner/guardian of a literal fallen “angel” streamed on Crunchyroll last year. It will hit American DVD next year.
Rideback is Madhouse’s 2009 adaptation of Tetsuro Kasahara’s sci-fi manga. The 12 episode political action drama revolves around a college girl skilled at riding a “rideback” transforming motorcycle who becomes embroiled in an attempted take-over of the Japanese government. The series will premiere domestically next year.
The 2008 Rosario + Vampire TV series and its sequel Rosario + Vampire Capu2 adapt Akihisa Ikeda’s supernatural harem comedy about a human teen attending a school for monsters. The two 13 episode series will premiere in America next year.
FUNimation has also “license rescued” the 2005 GUNxSWORD television series formerly distributed in America by Geneon. The series will return to domestic DVD later this year.
I’m always glad to see more anime getting licensed for domestic release, but there’s nothing here that particularly excites me, personally. I know that all of these shows have their fans, but in my personal opinion Chaos;Head was awful, Rideback was disappointing unfulfilled potential, and RosaVam and GunSword are both mediocre. Regios and SoraOto are okay for the folks that like them.

Rosario’s alright in the first manga, but I’m sensing diminishing returns in the second series.
Huh. Even with FUNI licensing more and more fanservice titles, I would’ve expected either Section23 or M.B. to license R+V and/or SoraOto. Didn’t think GunSword was worth a rescue, but I suppose worse has been salvaged.
Maybe R+V’s been fansubbed to death, and there was a concern that it wouldn’t sell as well?
A complete shutout here too, as usual.
