Final Fantasy Movie Sequel

Director Hironobu Sakaguchi has confirmed that a second full CG Final Fantasy movie will go into production as soon as the current “Spirits Within” movie completes production. The first movie has been in the works for four years. Producer Jun Aida estimates that with the experience the film crew has gained , the second film should only take two-thirds the time to complete that the first movie required.

Apparently Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within will be the beginning of a new Final Fantasy franchise. The sequel film will continue to develop the characters from the first movie rather than draw directly from the Final Fantasy video games. Sakaguchi also confirmed that “in the process of creating Final Fantasy features, the goal of Square Pictures is to firmly establish the Japanese company as a premiere digital animation studio in Hollywood.” Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is due in theaters this July.
