Fans and Professionals Urge Consumers to Buy More Anime

The fan run Bay Area Anime homepage, and Ghost in the Shell TV series sound editor “Ghostwriter” posting to the Production IG Forum have both published new editorials urging anime fans to support the anime industry by buying legitimate anime DVD releases.

Colin Fairbairn’s article emphasizes the fact that fansubs do not directly encourage the expansion of anime into America. The editorial does not persecute fansubs. The article encourages fans to realize, however, that supporting legitimate, licensed DVD releases is the most effective way to see more anime imported to America.

The statement from one of the members of the Ghost in the Shell TV series production staff likewise acknowledges the existance of bootleg Chinese anime DVDs and fansubs, and again simply urges fans that support fansubs to also express their support for the anime industry by buying legitimate, official DVD releases. “It would help a great deal if fans would buy the proper DVDs, at least one or two volumes of their favorite episodes after seeing the fansubs.”
