Dragon Quest VII Sales

Magic Box reports that Enix has announced that they have shipped 3.57 million copies of Dragon Quest VII for PlayStation in Japan. The total shipments will reach 4 million in the next few weeks. Enix has revised it’s achievement forecast for the period ending on March 2001. The sales projection has increased to 49,100,000,000 yen from 5,100,000,000 yen, and profit projection is increased to 19,800,000,000 yen from 3,300,000,000 yen.

According to another report, Dragon Quest is setting records for Japanese sales even though it’s up against the recent release of Final Fantasy IX. The Final Fantasy series is more popular among the younger generation in Japan, but the latest title proved to be no match for Dragon Quest , which is popular with games players of all ages. Another reason for the strong popularity of this particular title is that it takes at least 100 hours in order to finish the game, compared to the average RPG’s 40 hours completion time.
