Doraemon Coming to America

Taiwanese newspaper The Nation has reported that Doraemon will debut in America sometime in 2003. Representative director of Fujiko-Pro Zenshow Itoh revealed to the newspaper that Fujiko-Pro (named after the late Doraemon creator Fujiko F. Fujio) has plans to launch Doraemon on television in Europe and the United States next year.

Including theatrical movies and 2 TV series, Japan’s famous blue robotic cat from the future now has more than a thousand anime episodes and has been broadcast new TV episodes each week since 1979. Doraemon anime and manga are currently available in more than 22 countries, making Doraemon possibly second to only Tetsuwan Atom (Astro Boy) as the most recognized anime character in the world.
