Disney Re-Schedules Next Ghibli DVD Releases

Buena Vista Home Entertainment has officially announced that its next wave of Studio Ghibli films to be released on domestic DVD will be available on February 22, 2005. The uncut, double disc special editions of Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind and Porco Rosso- both directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and The Cat Returns, directed by Hiroyuki Morita will retail at $29.99 each.

The domestic release of The Cat Returns takes the place of the originally scheduled special edition release of My Neighbor Totoro. Presumably Totoro will be released at a later date. Oddly, The Cat Returns is a loose sequel to Studio Ghibli’s 1995 film Whisper of the Heart, which has not yet been officially released in America.
