DC Talks Manga

ICv2 News has published an extended interview with DC Comics President Paul Levitz. The first section of the interview briefly discusses manga. Levitz cites one primary difference between American and Japanese stories:

When I talk to the Japanese manga editors, and they talk about the process of creation, they talk about different story-telling themes as being important. You talk to an American English professor and they’ll talk about conflict as what drives story. The Japanese editors talk about friendship driving the story, not being driven by conflict at all.

Levitz also predicts a growth in American created manga influenced comics and a probability that DC will develop original manga style characters and stories.
