Crunchyroll Announcements from Otakon

At this past weekend’s Otakon convention, multimedia hosting website Crunchyroll announced a number of new distribution agreements.

Tokyo based anime studio Gonzo will offer 100 hours of its anime for free and commercial download-to-own viewing through Crunchyroll beginning this month. Titles confirmed for online distribution include Kaleido Star and Peace Maker Kurogane.

Media Blasters has licensed 6 titles for online distribution: the Girl’s High, Ramen Fighter Miki, and Kite: Liberator anime, and Flesh for the Beast, Machine Girl, and Shadow: Dead Riot live action films.

AD Vision has licensed 12 titles for online distribution via Crunchyroll:

Angelic Layer
Best Student Council
Chance Pop Session
Magical Play (22 episode web anime series)
Martian Successor Nadesico: Prince of Darkness
Nurse Witch Komugi
Parasite Dolls (movie edit)
Saiyuki (50 episode TV series)
Sin: The Movie
BASToF Syndrome (Korean animated series)
Lady Death (American/Korean animated movie)
Yesterday (Korean live-action film)

Also, according to Crunchyroll co-founder Vu Nguyen, despite Crunchyroll gaining $4 million in venture capital investments earlier this year, the site is looking for ways to “reward” volunteers who contribute to the site’s functionality without having to pay them.
