Bid For Power Meets Legal Woes

For several years now a group of devoted Dragonball fans/PC programmers have been working on an extensive Dragonball Z themed mod for Quake III titled Dragonball Z: Bid for Power. According to the latest reports from the official Bid for Power homepage, plans for a commercial release of the mod seem to be in serious jeopardy. Following the announcement of an official American license between FUNimation and Infogrames to produce American Dragonball console & PC games, the Bid for Power staff were given tentative approval to continue work on their project possibly to have it licensed and released by FUNimation. Apparently now, although there seems to be no negativity toward the project from Toei of Japan, FUNimation has insisted that the Bid for Power project either be totally redesigned to work as a Macromedia Flash game for the official Dragonball Z website or canceled altogether. Given that the project is essentially complete, it’s almost inevitable, with the nature of the internet, that a version of Bid for Power will somehow make it into public domain, but official sponsorship and recognition for this exhaustive fan produced project now seems unlikely.
