Beat Takeshi’s “Brother” Coming to the US

Sony Pictures Classics has announced that they will be bringing “Beat” Takeshi Kitano’s latest film, Brother, to the American theaters. Although still relatively unknown to most Western audiences, Beat Takeshi is currently one of the most influential writer/directors in world cinema. His violent and hard-boiled Japanese crime dramas including Hana-bi, Violent Cop, and Sonatine have consistently swept film festival awards and have made Kitano one of the most respected film makers in contemporary cinema.

Sony has opened an official homepage for the violent crime drama Brother, and will open the film to American theaters on May 11th. Ain’t It Cool News, in association with Apple’s QuickTime, has posted a small article about the film, and the theatrical trailer. Please be aware that the trailer contains violent content and may not be suitable for all viewers.
