Bad Day for CGI Actors

Director Andrew Niccol has quashed rumors that Al Pacino’s leading lady in their upcoming film, tentatively titled Simone, will be computer generated. He says there will be a virtual character in the film but only in a minor role. Simone, which is due to start shooting next month, is the story of a struggling Hollywood producer whose leading lady quits his film and is replaced by a digital actress. When news broke, the Screen Actors Guild claimed a real life actress was losing out on a perfectly good role to a digitally enhanced impostor. But Niccol has now assured the union that he intends to cast an unknown as the digital leading lady as the cost of computer animation would be too great.
