Avalon Coming to America in English Only DVD

Video.com has reported that Mamoru Oshii’s award winning live action sci-fi action/drama film Avalon will finally hit American DVD from Miramax Hone Entertainment on December 16th. Unfortunately, the film will be released in an English dubbed only format. The official, industry only Buena Vista Home Entertainment website confirms that the DVD will be English only with no bonus features, retailing at $19.95. By comparison, the film’s Japanese DVD release came in a special edition single disc version and limited edition 3 disc special edition. The French release is a double disc special edition or 3 disc special edition with soundtrack.

Japanese director Mamoru Oshii originally filmed Avalon with spoken Polish language dialogue to heighten authenticity and artistic effect. The film was released in Japan with Japanese subtitles. The original Japanese DVD release contains optional English and Japanese subtitles.
