Astro Boy Movie Doesn’t Soar in Japan

The live action feature film adaptation of Nobuyuki Fukumoto’s Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji gambling manga has topped the Japanese box office for a second straight week. The anime film Rebirth of Buddha opened this week in second place. Imagi Animation’s Astro Boy movie entered the Japanese box office charts last week in 10th place and fell out of the top ten this week. Manga adaptations 20th Century Boys Chapter 3 and Kamui dropped to the 9th and 10th box office spots this week as they begin to wind down their theatrical runs.
