Ask John: Will Card Captor Sakura Movie 2 be Released in America?

Question:
Is Cardcaptors the movie 2 going to be released in U.S? When? In English? And is the distributor of the English version going to complete the series that was originally aired on WB?

Answer:
This question comes up quite frequently.

So far there’s been no announcement of when or if the second Card Captor Sakura movie will be released in America; however, the chances of an American release are probably pretty strong. The final Card Captor Sakura TV episode was broadcast on Japanese television on March 21, 2000. The second movie, Fuuin Sareta Card, was released to Japanese theaters nearly 4 months later, on July 15th. The second movie was a continuation of the TV series storyline, and marked the conclusion of the Card Captor Sakura animation. Since the second movie is set after the end of the 70 episode TV series, Pioneer may be planning to release the second movie some time after the final TV series DVD is released in America. After all, it would make sense to finish the TV series before jumping ahead in the story to the ending movie.

There are no plans for more dubbed Cardcaptors episodes. When the show was canceled by Warner Bros., Nelvana Studios ceased dubbing new episodes. Considering that Pioneer never produced any dubbed Card Captor Sakura TV episodes themselves, and the dubs have been acknowledged as selling fewer copies than the uncut subtitled only DVDs, financially there’s very little reason for Pioneer to commission or release new dubbed Cardcaptors episodes.
