Ask John: Is There More Adventures of Kotetsu?

Question:
I’ve got the ADV release of The Adventures of Kotetsu. Is there more to this series than these two episodes?

Answer:
The Kotetsu no Daibouken series includes 9 volumes of manga and a novel, a hentai PC-98 computer adventure game, a drama CD, and two anime OAVs all based on the manga. The relatively significant amount of manga that the 2 anime episodes are adapted from explains why so many characters, locations and events appear in the OAV opening animation but do not appear in the episodes themselves. Like other anime series including Galaxy Frauline Yuna, Sakura Wars and Angel Sanctuary, the Adventures of Kotetsu anime was created primarily for Japanese fans that were already familiar with Kotetsu manga and series back-story before watching the animation. And similar to Galaxy Frauline Yuna and Angel Sanctuary, Adventures of Kotetsu was specifically intended to be only a 2 episode series as a sort of treat for fans of the manga. Since the first Kotetsu OAV was released in Japan in December 1996 and the second episode in January 1997, there have been no announcements of any plans for more anime episodes to be produced.
