Ask John: Is There Any Guilty Gear Anime?

Question:
Is there a Guilty Gear anime? I saw a Japanese dub of some scenes on G4 TV, and I can’t find it in the game.

Answer:
At the present time, the only existing Guilty Gear anime is a five minute long video clip. This short video was created as a bonus for the Japanese limited edition release of Guilty Gear X Plus for the Playstation 2.

Guilty Gear X Plus was released in Japan on November 29, 2001 in a regular edition retailing at 6,800 yen, and in a limited deluxe edition retailing at 9,800 yen. The Deluxe Pack included a bonus DVD containing the “Tokusei GGX Anime Clip,” a small crystal bust figure of Sol Badguy, an SD Ky Kiske keychain (get it? “Ky holder”), and a silver replica of Sol-Badguy’s pendant. The anime clip was created with English and Japanese spoken dialogue and English voice-over, all recorded in Japan (which explains the poor English grammar and pronunciation). This 5 minute long anime video is included as a bonus in the Gallery Mode of the American release Playstation 2 game Guilty Gear X2.

This short movie clip is not a trailer or preview of a forthcoming Guilty Gear anime. It is not an excerpt from a longer Guilty Gear anime only available in Japan. It is all there is. There have been no announcements, or even rumors, of any plans for the production of any full length Guilty Gear anime.
