Ask John: Is There a SoulTaker 2?

Question:
Is there a Soul Taker 2?

Answer:
There is no direct sequel to the SoulTaker TV series, but the character Komugi Nakahara was popular enough to spin off into her own magical girl parody franchise that’s ironically more popular than SoulTaker ever was. Just like the Tenchi Muyo Pretty Sammy OAVs and TV series, which included all the members of the Tenchi Muyo cast but weren’t part of the Tenchi Muyo continuity, Nurse Witch Komugi-chan includes appearances from members of the SoulTaker cast, but their roles and relationships are different than they were in the SoulTaker TV series.

The Nurse Witch Komugi-chan Magical-te OAV series was originally scheduled to have only 2 episodes but demand from Japanese fans has turned Komugi-chan into a “virtual idol.” The original OAV episode 2 has been re-released in Japan as episode 2.5, expanded with a new music video and short bonus film, and the original 2 episode OAV series itself has been extended into a planned 6 episode series. Komugi-chan’s popularity has also spawned a Windows CD-ROM, manga published by Young Animal Magazine (the same magazine that publishes the Berserk and Air Master manga), a PC game, soundtrack CDs, a line of original posters, and much more.

AD Vision has licensed the Nurse Witch Komugi-chan Magical-te OAV series for English language release.
