Ask John: Is There a Second Street Fighter Movie?

Question:
My question is on Street Fighter 2 the Animated Movie. I heard a lot of talk about being another movie that continues where that last scence where Ryu was about to jump toward Bison while driving the truck. I only know of the SF V series and Alpha series. Also I never actually saw Akuma in the movie but people swear he’s in there or another version. Could you clarify these for me?

Answer:
There is no existing continuation of the Street Fighter II movie. Gouki (American name “Akuma”) does appear in cameo in the Street Fighter II movie, but you have to be watching a widescreen version of the film to see him. The full-screen/pan & scan version of the movie cuts off the edges of the screen, and Gouki’s appearance. In the introductory scenes of India, just before the Dhalsim vs Honda fight, Gouki is sitting against a wall selling fruits at the very far edge of the screen.

The Street Fighter II movie was released in Japan in pan & scan and later widescreen VHS versions. The American VHS version is pan & scan. All DVD versions of the film are in widescreen, but the Japanese edition runs an uncut 102 minutes while the American version is edited down to 96 minutes.
