Ask John: How Much Bubblegum Crisis 2040 is There?

Question:
In Japan, how many episodes were released in the Bubblegum Crisis 2040 series? I’ve heard 24, but there were 2 missing. If that’s so, is ADV gonna release the other 2 episodes? And compared to the old series, do they all have the same jobs as in the original?

Answer:
The BGC TV series aired only 24 episodes on Japanese television, from October 7, 1998 until March 31, 1999. Episodes 25, “Walking on the Moon,” and 26, “Still Alive & Well,” were never broadcast, but instead were premiered on the home video VHS and LD releases. AD Vision has not yet confirmed how many volumes of Bubblegum Crisis 2040 they will release, but I assume that ADV Films will be releasing all 26 episodes.

In comparing the OAVs to the TV series, Sylia Stingray and Nene Romanova both have the same jobs in both series. Priss Asagiri originally worked as the lead vocalist for Priss and the Replicants, strengthening the original series’ homage to Blade Runner. In the TV series, Priss’ band has changed its name to Sekiria. Linna Yamazaki is the only character to find herself totally different from her previous incarnation. In the OAV series, Linna worked as an aerobics instructor. In the TV series, she is employed as an OL (office lady) for the Genom subsidiary company Hugh Geit.
