Ask John: Any King Of Fighters Anime?

Question:
I am a big fan of SNK videogames and I was wondering how much anime exists based on SNK characters and if there is a King of Fighters anime?

Answer:
Following in Capcom’s footsteps in creating anime adaptations of its video-game franchises, SNK has several anime series based on its properties. The Art of Fighting (Ryoko no Ken) OAV is available dubbed through Central Park Media. The first two Fatal Fury (Garrou Densetsu) TV movies and the theatrical motion picture are available both subtitled and dubbed through Viz Video. AD Vision currently distributes the Samurai Showdown (Samurai Spirits) TV movie. In early 1999, then at the end of 1999, two 30 minute volumes of a Japanese exclusive Samurai Spirits 2 OAV series were released. Loosely based on the Hyper Neo-Geo Samurai Spirits 64 and Neo-Geo Pocket Samurai Spirits 2 video games, the Samurai Spirits 2 OAV series focuses on the mysterious female warrior Shiki trying to escape the pursuit of the demonic samurai Asura. Naturally, Haomaru, Nakoruru, Galford and the rest of the crew get caught up in this conflict. There has not yet been any true King of Fighters anime, nor are there currently any plans for such; although, there is a short anime opening animation sequence on the Dreamcast version of King of Fighters 1999 Dream Match.
