Arjuna Gets Theatrical Rerelease

According to Anime News Service, the extended home video “Director’s Edit” version of Chikyu Shoujo Arjuna will be screening select episodes at upcoming Japanese film festivals including a theatrical presentation in Sapporo on November 2nd.

The 12 episode Earth Girl Arjuna TV series aired on Japanese television early this year. The home video release coming out in Japan right now is an extended “director’s cut” version featuring some new animation and an entirely original 13th episode.

Arjuna was created and supervised by Shoji Kawamori, creator of Macross and Escaflowne. The series is a mature “magical girl” sci-fi parable about ecological protection featuring music by Yoko Kanno and vocalist Maaya Sakamoto, and state of the art digital animation and CG rendering used to create a traditional 2D cel art anime look with virtually photorealistic depth and detail.
