Anime to be Eligible for Japan’s Oscar Equivalent

The Japan Academy Prize, the Japanese equivalent of America’s Motion Picture Association, has announced that the 2006 awards will include an “Animation of the Year” category for the first time in the presentation’s 30 year history. This year’s nominations are:

Arashi no Yoru ni
Gedo Senki
Toki wo Kakeru Shojo
Brave Story
Detective Conan 10th Movie: Tantei Tachi no Requiem

Winners will be announced on February 16, 2007.
