Anime Taking a Bite Out of Disney

According to an article published by the LA Times, Disney is researching other markets and focusing more attention on previously under utilized franchises in an effort to boost sagging profits. Disney is loosing market share due to more entertainment options available to its key demographic, including “Japanese animated cartoon Sailor Moon,” along with competition ranging from PBS’ Teletubbies to Nickelodeon’s Rugrats. In however small a degree, anime is obviously beginning to become a serious marketing power in the US.
