Anime Dominated 2004’s Japanese Box Office

According to figures released by the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan, anime genre related theatrical films accounted for about 60% of 2004’s Japanese box office earning. Among the top 20 highest grossing films in Japan last year, the anime or manga based (and Godzilla film) highlights are:

01. Howl’s Moving Castle (earned 20 billion yen)
04. Pokemon Advance Generation (earned 4.3 billion)
05. Doraemon: Nobi Ta No Wannyan Jikuu Den (earned 3 billion yen)
06. Detective Conan: Gin Tsubasa No Kijutsushi (earned 2.8 billion)
09. NINxNIN Ninja Hattori THE MOVIE (earned 1.9 billion yen)
11. One Piece The Movie: Norowa Reta Seiken (earned 1.8 billion yen)
13. Casshern (earned 1.5 billion yen)
15. Gekijouban Naruto: Dai Katsugeki! (earned 1.3 billion yen)
16. Gojira x Mothra x Mechagojira: Tokyo S.O.S. (earned 1.3 billion yen)
17. Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi Wo Yobu! (earned 1.2 billion yen)
18. Steamboy (earned 1.1 billion yen)
20. Innocence (earned 1.0 billion yen)
