Dallas prosecutors have dropped one of two obscenity charges filed against a comic shop clerk for selling hentai, specifically Demon Beast Invasion: The Fallen and Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. The comics were purchased by a PTA father and a 45 year old police officer. “This shouldn’t even be about children,” said Chris Bleistein, deputy director of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, which is representing the store. “There’s no question that these books were never sold to children. But the state maintains that they are harmful to adults and that they have absolutely no redeeming value.” One of the two charges was initially upheld, and the clerk was levied a $4,000 fine. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is currently mounting an appeal of the first conviction.
