Akaneiro R2 Release Canceled?
Japanese retail chain Sofmap has formally revised its retail listing for the June 2009 release of Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka DVD volume 7 to report both limited edition and standard edition as canceled. It’s not clear if this is an incident isolated just to the Sofmap chain, or representative of something impacting the anime itself and its Japanese DVD release.
The show may not be great, but it’s not really that bad, is it?

Probably not intended, but “R2 Release Canceled?” makes it sound like the entire release may be canceled.
The show itself is 12 episodes, and will be released on 6 DVDs. The disc that got canceled is just the 7th disc, which was speculated (but never confirmed) to contain an OVA episode (as was the case with most of this director’s previous works released by Avex — School Days, Lovely Idol, etc.) This could be because they just decided the show didn’t have enough popularity to fund the OVA, or maybe they’re just going to solicit it separately or distribute it through some other means. Who knows…
Another way of re-stating the whole story in a less dramatic way would simply be to say that the show, originally scheduled for 7 DVD releases, will apparently now be released on 6 DVDs instead. But I guess stating it that way hardly makes it blog-worthy… ^^;
