Friday, January 28th, 2011

Reportedly the new issue of Young Magazine that hits stores in Japan next week will formally announce an April 5th premiere of a second Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji (Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji) anime television series. Madhouse animated the 2007 anime adaptation of Nobuyuki Fukumoto’s manga and will again animate the second TV series.

Really, I don’t understand why Kaiji is so popular when Fukumoto’s Akagi series is so much more interesting.

X Japan Signs With EMI

Friday, January 28th, 2011

X Japan has signed a three-year manufacturing and distribution contract with EMI Music. EMI will distribute “Jade” as the group’s first American single release on March 15. The band is in studio now working on an album now tentatively scheduled for release this summer. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with X Japan. They have cultivated a strong following in the U.S. and we look forward to working with them, helping to reach even more fans,” said EMI Music Services North America Executive Vice President Dominic Pandiscia. X Japan band leader Yoshiki explained, “X Japan’s music is everything from fast, super-heavy rock to ballads with classical piano – all of those elements are what makes X Japan’s music. We don’t play just one kind of music – we want to take people on a journey.”

Half of the songs on the forthcoming album will be culled from the band’s Gold and Platinum Japanese singles; the other half are brand-new songs, and an estimated 95% of the lyrics are being sung in English. “Some of the songs on this new album were originally written with Japanese lyrics,” Yoshiki explained, “So translating them into English has been challenging. For some reason, English needs more words, so I ended up re-writing many of the lyrics but kept the same message.”

Opening A Day Suggestions Please

Friday, January 28th, 2011

After more than 130 unique or interesting overlooked, little known, or forgotten anime opening sequences, I’m starting to run out of candidates. Any suggestions? So far every opening I’ve posted has been from a series that I’ve actually watched, but that doesn’t have to be a requirement. I’m only seeking suggestions for opening animation sequences that have some interesting, unusual, or unique aspect and aren’t from common, well-known, currently widely available shows.

Lotte no Omocha Trailer

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

The homepage for the upcoming Lotte no Omocha television series has added a streaming trailer. The adaptation of Yui Haga’s 2007 and ongoing romantic comedy manga series is the story of a human boy transported to another world to become an alien princess’ “toy.”

Could this possibly be any more cute? Not that I’m complaining.
