Nichijou OAD Trailer

Kadokawa has released a trailer for the Nichijou episode 0 OAD that will be released on March 12 with limited edition copies of the sixth volume of Arawi Keiichi’s slice-of-life school gag comedy manga. The animation is provided by Kyoto Animation.

First Look at Extended Kowarekake Footage

In general I love “manly” anime, stuff like Golgo 13 and Fist of the North Star. Heroes that could drunk arm-wrestle a young Arnold Schwarzenegger and still probably win. Men that could liberate POWs from an enemy nation with just one attractive female helping them. Manly men that could kill a small army of Predators. What are the best and most obscure and well-known ultra-manly animes you could you recommend to put chest hair on all the young ones?

Take Moon Anime Announced

This week’s new January issue of Monthly Comic Rex magazine officially announces the development of an anime based on Eri (Kannagi) Takenashi’s two volume Take Moon collection of parodies and homages of Type-Moon franchises including Tsukihime, Kagetsu Tohya, and Fate/stay night. Seiji Kishi (Angel Beats!, Seto no Hanayome) will direct.

Sunrise Reveals Tiger & Bunny Anime

Sunrise has formally unveiled its development of a company employee hero anime titled Tiger & Bunny. Karas director Keiichi Satou will direct the series. Video Girl Ai and I”s creator Masakazu Katsura will provide the original character designs. The show will premiere on Japanese television and online next April.

Fuse Gansaku Anime Movie Announced

Japanese book distributor Taiyosha claims that an anime film adaptation of Kazuki Sakuraba’s latest novel, Fuse Gansaku: Satomi Hakkenden, is in development. The novel is Sakuraba’s reinterpretation of author Kyokutei Bakin’s ninteenth century 106 volume novel series Nanso Satomi Hakkenden, now considered one of the classics of Japanese literature. The original 1814-1842 novel series has been adapted into anime twice before, as the 1990 OVA series Hakkenden and the 1999 sci-fi television series Shin Hakkenden. Ko Amami and Aki Kuruwa’s yaoi manga adaptation of the story, Gakuen Hakkenden, also has an anime adaptation presently in development.

Author Kazuki Sakuraba may be better known to American readers as the author of the Gosick (“Gothic”) mystery novel series, which presently has a TV anime adaptation in development.

Studio Deen President Financing Folklore Anime

59-year-old president of Studio DEEN Hiroshi Hasegawa is moving forward with his plans to self-finance an anime feature film that adapts folk stories from his birthplace, western Tottori Prefecture, and his late wife’s birthplace, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. The production is the fulfillment of a promise that Hasegawa made to his wife, Michiko, before she passed away last May. The hybrid live action and anime film will include 11 stories, each roughly ten minutes long. Hasegawa plans to distribute the film for free to educational and social institutions.

Bartender Drama Announced

Masaki Aiba of the idol group Arashi will star in a live action TV series adaptation of Araki Joh and Kenji Nagatomo’s manga series Bartender. The ongoing manga series about a skilled bartender who listens to customer’s problems and helps them work through their difficulties premiered in 2004 and was adapted into an 11 episode anime TV series in 2006.

GitS S.A.C. Movie 3D Re-release Announced

Production IG has announced that the Kokaku Kidotai S.A.C. Solid State Society 3D motion picture will hit Japanese theaters on March 26. The movie is a stereoscopic 3D conversion of the 2006 movie which is itself a condensed version of the 2004 second Ghost in the Shell television series. Original series director Kenji Kamiyama is overseeing the 3D conversion. The 3D reissue will also feature an entirely new opening sequence animated by Production I.G.
