Ayumayu Theater DVD Trailer Online

The official Ayumayu Theater homepage now hosts a trailer for upcoming February 23rd release of the Ayumayu Theater DVD. The Japanese DVD will contain the first 8 episodes of the series. The first 4 episodes have previously been officially available for free online viewing. The DVD release trailer will be available until February 8th.

Adult Source Media has confirmed its acquisition of 8 Yakin Byouto (“Night Shift Nurses”) erotic anime OAVs not licensed by Central Park Media. ASM’s license includes:

Yakin Byouto kranke Kodama Ai
Yakin Byouto kranke Nanase Ren
Yakin Byouto III experiments 1-3

All of the episodes will be released on American DVD uncensored and uncut.

Dr. Slump DVD Release Trailer Online

The official homepage for the upcoming DVD release of the 1981 Dr. Slump Arale-chan television series now hosts a 2:30 streaming trailer. The 243 episode television series created by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama will be released in Japan in two DVD boxed sets.

The “Ncha” box will contain episodes 1-120, 2 TV specials, a bonus short, and more, a set of 15 mini character figures, and more at a retail price of 105,000 yen (currently approx. $862) beginning March 23rd.

The “Hoyoyo” box will contain episodes 121-243, a bonus features disc, 4 mini figures, and more at a retail price of 105,000 yen beginning September 14th.

Why do Japanese characters always let someone push them around or bully them till it gets to the point where they want to kill themselves. Is it merely for the sake of the story, or is it an actual portrayal of Japanese characteristic?

New FUNimation Announcements

FUNimation has announced its acquisition of distribution rights to the Shuffle and Mushishi anime television series and the Itsudatte My Santa OAV series. The 24 episode Shuffle series and 24 episode Mushishi series will premier in America this summer. The 2 episode Itsudatte My Santa series, re-titled “My Santa,” will debut in America this fall.

FUNimation has also announced that the highly anticipated first domestic DVD volume of Tsubasa Chronicle will be released on May 22.

Bandai Schedules Suzumiya Haruhi Release

TOKYOPOP Announces Japanese Produced Princess Ai Animation

TOKYOPOP has announced a new marketing blitz surrounding its Princess Ai comic series, including a daily newspaper comic strip, a five volume novel series, an illustrated book of poetry, a soundtrack, and a feature film due in 2009.

American creator “D.J. Milky” and Japanese anime studio Satelight (Macross Zero, Arjuna, Heat Guy J) are currently in post-production on a Princess Ai pilot animation. The animation was written and directed by “D.J. Milky” with animation direction handled by Eiichi Sato (Full Metal Manic, Fortune Quest L).

Udon Comics Acquires Street Fighter Manga

Udon Comics has announced its acquisition of translation rights to three original Japanese Street Fighter manga series.

Masahiko Nakamura’s 2 volume Street Fighter Zero series will released in America under the title “Street Fighter Alpha” beginning in April.

Masaomi Kanzaki’s original Street Fighter II: Ryu manga series, previously partially released in America by Viz, will be re-released fully uncut and complete in 3 volumes beginning in May.

Masahiko Kanzaki’s 2 volume action comedy Sakura Gunbaru! will debut in English in July.

Kotetsu Jeeg Remake Revealed

Game News Site EG has revealed that Kotetsu Shin Jeeg (“Steel God Jeeg”), a new version of Go Nagai’s classic 1975 television series, will premier on the WOWOW television network at 11 PM on April 5th.

Go! Comi to Give Portfolio Reviews at New York Comic Con

Manga publisher Go! Comi has announced that it will be hosting portfolio reviews for the first time ever at their booth during New York Comic Con. The reviews will be held at booth 564 on Saturday February 24th between 10:00 AM and noon. If you are talented, ambitious, and have a portfolio, the editors at Go! Comi want to see your work, possibly to arrange a publishing contract.

Ask John: Why the Sudden Trend in Reviving Classic Mecha Anime?

Question:
I have heard news that many classic mecha shows are getting a remake/sequel. To date, Dancougar, Giant Robo, Reideen, and Kotetsu Jeeg are confirmed to get a remake/sequel this year. Last year alone we had Gaiking and the new Z Gundam movies. This is not even counting the new Evangelion movies coming soon. Why do you think these classic mecha series are getting a new life? Is it to show these to a new generation of mecha fans, or because we’re still in a post-Evangelion world and no one has yet to make a groundbreaking mecha series that Evangelion made over 10 years ago?

FUNimation Acquires Aquarion

FUNimation has formally announced its acquisition of distribution rights to the 2005 television series Sosei no Aquarion, a mecha series directed by Shoji Kawamori (Macross) and animated by Satelight (Noein, Macross Zero).

Aim for the Top 2 Licensed

According to Anime on DVD, Newtype USA Magazine has reported that Bandai Visual will begin releasing the Aim for the Top 2 anime OAV series (also known as “Gunbuster 2″) in America this April.
