First Look at New AIKa OAV Series

The official Japanese AIKa homepage has added a page revealing the upcoming AIKa R-16: Virgin Mission OAV series. The first episode of the new 3 episode series featuring an entirely new cast and story will premier on Japanese DVD on March 23rd.

Irohanihoheto Opening Theme PV Online

A sample version of the full length promotional video for FictionJunction YUUKA’s song “Kouya Ruten,” the opening theme for the current internet broadcast anime series Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto, is now available from FictionJunction YUUKA’s homepage. The video is available in streaming Real Media, narrowband Windows Media, and broadband Windows Media formats.

TOKYOPOP Announces TOKYOPOP Manga Creator

TOKYOPOP has announced that Planetwide Media will release a “TOKYOPOP Manga Creator” software program next spring. The $29.99 program will enable users to create original TOKYOPOP “manga” using original art and concepts in conjunction with Tokyopop characters, backgrounds, logos, icons and screen shots. Creators will be able to print out their original TOKYOPOP manga, or post them online or e-mail them.

Gonzo to Invest in External Companies

Gonzo Digital Holdings has formally announced that its subsidiary company GDH Capital K.K. has established a “Content Firm Contribution Fund” with 650 million yen to invest in small to medium scale Japanese music, games, broadcasting, feature films, mobile content, etc. developers unaffiliated with the Gonzo company.

Fate/Zero Announced

Type-Moon and Nitroplus, two of Japan’s most successful PC game development studios, have announced plans to collaborate on the creation of a prequel to the best selling adult PC game Fate/stay night. Fate/Zero will be set ten years before the events depicted in Fate/stay night. Details about the game will be revealed publicly at Comic Market 71, scheduled for December 29-31.

Ask John: Why Hasn’t Suzumiya Haruhi Been Announced for American Release Yet?

Question:
When Kadokawa announced at Otakon last August that it had received several solicitations to license the anime series Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu for US release, I was very excited. However, we have had not heard any new details since then. With lack of details, it made me wonder if it usually took this long (or perhaps even longer) to negotiate the licensing rights to a title. How long does it usually take to negotiate the licensing rights to a title? What other elements could possibly affect the negotiations or acquisition rights? I’d read somewhere about the possibility of the US trademark issues regarding to the playboy bunny suit Haruhi wore being a factor in licensing of the title, although I don’t know if this is true or not.

AD Vision Formally Announces Sgt. Frog License

AD Vision has issued a formal press announcement confirming its acquisition of English language TV broadcast, home video, and merchandise rights to the Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunso) anime franchise.

In an ICv2 interview, AD Vision CEO John Ledford confirms AD Vision’s distribution rights to all of the Sgt. Frog TV episodes, but does not confirm AD Vision’s distribution rights to the two Sgt. Frog motion pictures.

Witchblade Manga Coming to America

Comic company Top Cow has announced plans to publish Kobayashi Yasuko & Sumita Kazasa’s original Japanese Witchblade Takeru manga series in America beginning in February 2007. Top Cow’s version of the manga will be re-formatted to read left to right, will be colored for the American market, and will be released in monthly American comic book format. Reportedly the extensive alterations have, “the full blessing of the original artist and the original Japanese publisher.”

Later in 2007 Bandai Entertainment will release an unaltered, Japanese format, English translated version of the manga.

Hitohira Anime Announced

Comic High Magazine has formally announced that Kirihara Izumi’s manga series “Hitohira” will be adapted into an anime television series next year. The manga series currently has 3 collected volumes.
