Critical Mass Schedules New Titles

Critical Mass has scheduled the release of two new adult anime titles for June 27th.

F3: Frantic, Frustrated & Female, a re-release of the series previously available in America from AD Vision then Softcel Pictures, will contain a new English dub and retail at $29.98.

Sexy Sailor Soldiers (”Nami SOS!”) will run 30 minutes and retail at $19.99.

MatsuriCon Announces Final Round of Guests

MatsuriCon has announced its final three guests of honor who will attend the April convention: Master shakuhachi player Michael Gould, gaming company Archaic Jump Productions, voice actors Tristan MacAvery & Patrick Seitz, and musical guest Gakidomo.

MatsuriCon will take place on April 20th-23rd 2006 in Worthington, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus.

Ask John: Why Don’t More Japanese Anime DVDs Include English Subtitles?

Question:
Why don’t more R2J [Japanese DVD Region 2] anime releases include an English sub track for the foreign market? The expense is small compared to a dub, and the additional export sales - though also small - would contribute directly to the bottom line. It would give Western fans access to many series that have little chance of overseas licensing. For some of us, cost and region encoding are not an obstacle. Only the language barrier stands in the way of importation.

IFC Documentary on Anime Available Online

The Independent Film Channel (IFC) now hosts a pair of short chapters in a video documentary titled “Anime in the USA.” One of the segments deals with the growth of American fandom through tape trading. The other segment analyzes the cinematic techniques used by anime.

The official Japanese School Rumble anime homepage has updated for the show’s upcoming second series.

WOWOW has opened its homepage for The Third ~Aoi Hitomi no Shoujo~ (”The Third ~Blue Eyed Girl~”)

TOKYO MX TV has opened its homepage for the Nishi No Yoki Majo Astrea Testament television series.

TOKYOPOP Partners With HarperCollins

TOKYOPOP has announced the formation of a development partnership with major American publishing company HarperCollins. The most significant result of the agreement is that TOKYOPOP will develop original American “manga” comics based on concepts from HarperCollins authors including Meg Cabot. TOKYOPOP and HarperCollins expect to eventually publish as many as 24 original “manga” based on HarperCollins franchises annually.

ICv2 has published an exclusive interview with TOKYOPOP publisher Mike Kiley, discussing the implications of the arrangement for TOKYOPOP.

Kristine Sa Performance Available Online

Nemesis Records has passed along word that a video recording of Kristine Sa performing her remix of “Every Heart” from Inuyasha at last year’s Anime USA convention is now available on YouTube.

“Watch Kristine rock the house in this new video shot at last year’s Anime USA convention. The clip includes live footage plus behind-the-scenes and assorted goofing off at the Sheraton in VA where the convention was held. If you’ve never been to an Anime convention and have no idea what it’s like, check out the clip. It’s a lot of fun!”

Wasabi Animusical Sequel Scheduled for JACON 2006

Orlando, Florida based anime club Wasabi Anime has announced plans to stage “Wasabi Animusical II: Electric Boogaloo” at this year’s JACON anime convention, on Friday, April 28th at 8:00 PM. The stage musical will feature over 100 costumes, 24 performers, and a dozen songs culled from motion pictures. The show is a unique treat for anime, manga, video game, stage, and movie enthusiasts alike.

Gainax Announces Evangelion Bicycle

Gainax has announced plans to sell a limited edition “Shin Seiki Evangelion Shogoki Model EVA-01 BIKE.” The 6-speed folding bicycle painted in Evangelion Unit-01 colors will be a serially numbered limited edition retailing at 44,100 yen ($377). The Eva bicycle will be delivered to customers in late July.

New Kanon Anime Announced

At the Tokyo Anime Fair, TBS & Pony Canyon formally announced that Kyoto Animation will produce a new Kanon anime TV series for broadcast on the BS-i satellite TV network this fall. Kanon, a erotic love adventure game from Key, was adapted into a popular anime TV series by Toei Animation in 2001.
