Paramount Pictures and Star Wars Episode VII<\/em> director J.J. Abrams have announced plans for an American live-action adaptation of writer\/director Makoto Shinkai’s blockbuster anime film Your Name<\/a> (Kimi no Na wa). “Eric Heisserer, who was nominated for an Oscar for penning the script to the Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi drama Arrival<\/em>, is on board to write the screenplay for the adaptation.” Abrams will co-produce the film adaptation. A director has not yet been selected. The 2016 body-hopping\/time skipping romantic fantasy film is the fourth-highest grossing film of all time in Japan and world’s highest grossing anime film.<\/p>\n

“Your Name<\/em> is a film created with the innate imaginations of a Japanese team and put together in a domestic medium,\u201d said Shinkai in a statement. \u201cWhen such a work is imbued with Hollywood filmmaking, we may see new possibilities that we had been completely unaware of. I am looking forward to the live-action film with excited anticipation.\u201d<\/p>\n
