Miyagi prefecture was hit especially hard by the March 2011 Higashi Nihon Daishinsai earthquake & tsunami. The Asahi anime studio was opened in Shiroishi, Miyagi prefecture, in April 2010, less than a year before the earthquake hit. The TV special is set on Tashirojima, a real-life island near Ishinomaki, known for its especially large population of stray cats. The anime will tell the story of the cats’ survival immediately following the disaster. The special will air on the BS Fuji satellite and cable channel at 11:55 p.m. on March 21.<\/p>\n
Setting aside the obvious pity factor, studio Gallop’s 2009 talking animal TV special Kawa no Hikari was quite good.
