The original version of Hayao Miyazaki’s classic Laputa: The Castle in the Sky will show at 1:30 PM, followed at 4:30 PM by the American premier of Spriggan, a presentation sponsored by AD Vision. Supervised by Katsuhiro Otomo, creator of Akira, and directed by Hirotsugu Kawasaki, Spriggan originated from a popular eleven volume manga series. Its production can be compared to a three yearlong marathon. More than ninety thousand frames, that is to say 20% more than the usual anime feature film of the same length, were necessary to make it. Both films are presented in Japanese with English subtitles. AD Vision now plans a theatrical wide-release for Spriggan in the US in the early spring of 2001.

Source: Anime News Network

Sunday, October 22 at the El Capitan Theater (6838 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood), two Japanese animated feature-length films have been specially selected to screen at the AFI (American Film Institute) Fest 2000.
