Studio Ghibli Announces New Films

Studio Ghibli has, at last, formally announced the 2013 films from directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. Hayao Miyazaki’s first film in five years is Kaze Tachinu (The Wind Is Rising). The movie is Miyazaki’s own biography of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the WWII era Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter plane. Takahata’s first film since 1999’s Tonari no Yamada-kun will be Kaguya-hime no Monogatari (The Tale of Princess Kaguya), a new adaptation of the classic Japanese fairy-tale Taketori Monogatari (The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter). Both films will open simultaneously, in separate screenings, next summer.
