To refresh your memory or introduce you to an interesting opening animation sequence, I submit to you the first Violinist of Halemn opening from 1996. The theme song is “Magical Labyrinth” performed by SKIRT.

I heard that this show suffered from a lot of still frame shots. Is that true?
Perhaps the largest benefit of this opening sequence, other than the encompassing theme song, is that this minute and a half of animation tries to tell a story.
It’s funny, I was just thinking about opening sequences yesterday, when I popped in the first disc of SLAYERS: REVOLUTION for the first time. The tempo of the song is the same, the eclectic sequence of strong action poses was the same, and the constant playing up of the ‘fantasy-adventure’ sentiment, was the same… but I just couldn’t really get into it. The quality of animation was better, but I just couldn’t get into it.
Sorry for the typo. I corrected “Violinst,” but “Halemn” (missing the “i”) is the proper official Japanese Romanization, similar to the way the official Romanization of Brain Powered is actually “Brain Powerd.”
Regrettably, the show does have extremely limited animation. Fantastic story, music, and character design. Just very minimal animation.
I remember back 8 years ago their were VoH cosplayers and the show had a small underground following for a time. Despite the limited animation, I’m surprised it was never licensed.
