New Licenses Announced

AD Vision apparently confirmed at last weekend’s Akacon convention that they have secured the rights to re-release the former Streamline titles Crying Freeman and Doomed Megalopolis. AD Vision will also be handling the home video release of Medabots, but most likely the release will be the American TV version only.

According to rumor from Akacon, Columbia/TriStar has secured the American distribution rights to the Cowboy Bebop movie. This hasn’t yet been confirmed, but may be considered a strong possibility, and possibly good news. Columbia was involved in the Japanese distribution of the film, and has already committed to a subtitled American theatrical release of Metropolis. It should be worth noting that compared to other companies that have released anime films theatrically in America including Urban Vision, AD Vision, Manga Entertainment, and Buena Vista, Columbia Pictures is the only company that has committed to releasing anime theatrically in America with its original Japanese dialogue intact.

Rumor of an American distribution license for the Cowboy Bebop movie is currently still just unconfirmed rumor, though.
