New Announcement for US Ring Re-Make

Naomi Watts, who is currently starring in David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive, has signed on to star in the DreamWorks Pictures re-make of the seminal 1988 Japanese horror film The Ring.

Unlike typical Western horror films, The Ring and many of its sequels and similar contemporary Japanese horror films, contains virtually no sudden shocks or surprise plot twists. Instead, The Ring builds a gradual and omnipresent atmosphere of dread, uncertainty and fear. The film is the story of a female reporter who follows up an urban legend about a videotape of abstract, vaguely disturbing imagery. According to rumor, those who watch the tape die of unknown causes exactly 7 days later. After watching the tape, the reporter must unravel the mystery within a week or risk facing a mysterious, horrible death that may or may not really occur.
